Rebel Legion/501st

The Rebel Legion and 501st are Lucasfilm approved International costuming organizations with members reaching all corners of the world. Our mission is to do good work through our costumes by promoting charities and nonprofit organizations

The presentation will consist of the mission of the Rebel Legion and 501st and the positive impact that they have on the communities where they are located. We are an all-volunteer organization formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts under a collective identity within which to operate. We seek to promote interest through the building and wearing of screen accurate costumes, and to facilitate the use of these costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions through costumed charity and volunteer work. In addition we will discuss costume requirements and how to apply for membership.

MrCreepyPasta's Storytime

Gather round the campfire boils and ghouls and MrCreepyPasta will tell you stories that will give you nightmares for years to come. Taken from stories around the internet and some of your favorites from YouTube, listen as the one and only blue man retells them in the iconic voice you've come to know and love.

Creepy Pasta is the new Urban Legend. Horror stories and experiences from around the internet are crawling out of the wood work and coming to your ears from one specific voice. MrCreepyPasta, horror story teller of YouTube, is a well known voice for such famous horror characters such as Jeff the Killer, Smile.Dog and Eyeless Jack.

3D Animation & Game Development with Victoria Sertich, Northwest Vista College

Come get a taste of what Northwest Vista's 3D Animation and Game Development has to offer! At our booth, see examples of student work, animation videos and game demos. At our game demo station, right outside our booth, you can try out our games! 

 

In 3D Animation, students learn the disciplines that make up 3D Art; traditional and digital art skills, drawing, modeling, sculpting, texturing, rigging, and animating. In Game Development, students can specialize in Production or Programming. In Game Programming, students learn the principles and techniques of interactive game programming and software development. In our Game Production, students learn a combination of both 3D Animation and Game Programming.

 

Cosplay 101 with Laura Lara and Tris Ramirez

So you've thought about cosplaying but aren't sure where to start? Come join us as we explore the basics from character development, costume construction, and props.

Lara is a Master Costumer, cosplayer of 10 years, and librarian at Ward ES. Ramirez and Olivas are both active cosplayers and graduates of NISD.

Contouring and Highlighting 101

Come join the beautification process of Highlighting and Contouring. Learn some mini tips and tricks for what to shade and not to shade. Product application methods will be shown with sponges, brushes, powders, and creams.

Tris is an active Cosplayer. He has combined Makeup and a Drag-aesthetic to his Cosplay and brings his creations to conventions and volunteer events.

Sci-fi Mythology with Andrea Stehle

This presentation will explore examples of TV show, books and movies that have mixed the genres of science fiction and mythology. It will begin with Wonder Woman and include examples from Star Trek, Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica and Stargate. It will end with my Sci-mythology series Gods of Arcadia.

Andrea Stehle has been a Latin and Classics teacher for 28 years. She has loved classical mythology since she was a little girl. She has three beautiful daughters who have each made an impact on her Sci-fi mythology series, Gods of Arcadia.

Introduction to EVA foam armor with Sherry and Rob Mabry (Sherbert Cosplay)

Come and learn the art of crafting costumes out of EVA foam. We will show you techniques for finishing and an overview on choosing templates.

We have competed in several competitions across Texas and have taken first place in two contests as of today. We are active on Instagram and Facebook and would love to present our techniques and love of foamsmithing to others.

Zombie FX

Sergio Guerra has been creating monsters since he was 5 years old. His love of classic monsters and Halloween has led him to create all types of creatures for feature films, TV, and Haunted Houses. Sergio is mostly known for appearing on the first season of SyFy's make-up competition, "Face Off" and loves to share his passion for Halloween and Special FX with the world at large.

Come for a quick "Tips and Tricks" zombie making demonstration for creating your very own realistic ghouls. 

Making and Publishing Comics

Participants will learn the process of making comics, covering all of the major areas: writing, art, coloring & lettering, then on to publishing and marketing. If students have portfolios, presenters can do a portfolio review at the end of the presentation.

Japanese Culture and Traditions, Folktales, Origami, Calligraphy, and Chopsticks with Chinatsu Oku

'School life in Japan' will give you how different Japanese schools are compared to ones in the United States.

'Folktales Telling' is the Japanese style story telling which the presenter reads a story showing pictures of each scene.

Get hands-on and learn the art of Origami, Japanese paper folding.

Write your name in Japanese by Calligraphy with special brushes.

Practice/experience how to use chopsticks and to play games using chopsticks.

Chinatsu Oku is the Japan Outreach Coordinator who promotes Japanese culture and traditions in San Antonio. She is based at the University of Texas at San Antonio for the next two years.

Come learn from our panel of published game designers what it takes to turn your neat idea into a real, finished project (without going insane in the process). We'll talk about everything from ideation to engineering, and all the grungy bits in between. . .AND we'll answer your questions based our experience in a wide variety of genres.

The panelists are indie game designers who have published a wide variety games over the past several years. They are happy to share their experiences with you because the world is waiting for your game.

We are lifelong nerds, gamers, and anime fans. We've been RenFair Pirates for well over a decade, Steampunk Explorers for 6 or 7 years, and Vikings for about half that. We are former fringer kids turned mentors; we're also crazy cat people =^.^=

Soulless Studios with Mark Solis

Join Mark as he exhibits the mobile game he is developing, along with some other prototypes involving image recognition and Augmented Reality.

Mark started programming in 8th grade, self-taught. He has beeen developting software and games, and will be teaching game development for the NISD Learning Center this fall.
